Windsurfing

Sal is the main area for windsurfing. Heading to the the southern end of the island in Santa Maria, the bay has a white sandy beach stretching for approximately 4km with a steep sand entry in parts. For the more experienced windsurfer, seeking the rush of some serious wave riding then a visit to Punta Preta, on the rougher west side, is a must. Waves here can reach up to 8ft running onto a stony shore break. It was here that the 2007 PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) World Cup was held.

Cape Verde is quickly growing as a Kite Surfing or Kite Boarding destination. With a range of wind directions and water conditions across the island, it has something to offer every level. Deep water, flat as well as wavy water conditions, ensures that those kite surfers choosing to learn here, will find they are able to kite else where with confidence.

Diving and Snorkeling in Cape Verde

Diving in Cabo Verde / Cape Verde is incredibly varied, without the crowds, and with anabundance of fish life, shipwrecks, cave systems and  turtles. Experienced divers will love the diving here.

The island of Sal offers unique, tropical underwater scenery, unlike anything found on the West Africa coast or the Canary Islands, and more comparable to that of the Caribbean. The seas are rich with sharks, tuna, dolphins and turtles. You will meet shoals of bream, triggerfish, rockfish and perch and then there is the unusual underwater reef. Not to mention the occasional Manta Ray that might be hiding amongst the rock formations, caves, canyons and walls. During March and April Humpback, and Grey Whales migrate past the islands.

Fishing is a popular pastime in Cape Verde with various activities available. Fishing centres can be found on Sal and the other islands and fishing trips can be organized. Hiring equipment for those who want to go it alone is difficult at the moment but this is sure to change in the near future.
